Google Apps & Live@Edu

Using Google and Microsoft public cloud services for email and office applications

For many schools, a move to Google Apps/Mail or Microsoft Live@Edu has been their first significant step into the world of cloud computing. These Google and Microsoft public cloud services offer a number of benefits for schools including large email and file storage capacities plus anywhere, anytime access to web-based office applications for students and staff. Moving mail servers from inside your school to the cloud can also be a cost-effective solution.

To ensure a smooth transition to Live@Edu or Google Mail, Edtech offer a number of integration services from the initial deployment and migration of data, through to synchronisation of directories and ongoing technical support as required. Best of all, we can setup each school with their own customised portal – including single sign-on functionality - from which users can access other web-based software such as Wiki Educator, Ultranet, Mahara e-Portfolio, library software and more. All to ensure a seamless user experience for staff and students.

Based on our experience in working with schools already using these public cloud services, we can also advise on the potential internet traffic that will be generated to determine the impact on your bandwidth and data caps.
