This course covers budgeting specifically in the school environment. Learn how to master the budgeting juggling act and avoid common pitfalls:

  • Understanding the budgeting planning process
  • How to prepare the schools operating budget (monthly and annual)
  • Balance sheet budget
  • Capital expenditure budget
  • Basic cash flow budget 
  • Using the budget to manage the school finances
  • Use MUSAC Accounts to produce your budget

Accounting for Non Accountants
 


 
Overview:    For those with little or no accounting experience and / or Accounts staff, Treasurers, BOT's and principals who would like to have a better understanding of accounting and school annual financial statements.

  • A basic overview of accounting -
  • The accounting process
  • Debits and credits and the accounting equation
  • Understandinhg the school's annual financial statements
  • Depreciation and cyclical maintenance (how and why)

School Finances

 

Overview:   

This full-day seminar is split into 2 sections with the morning session covering a range of topics around school finances and the afternoon session focused on budgeting in the school enviroment.

The morning session covers:

  • Back to basics – where do the figures come from - the ‘science’ behind it all.
  • What are the key figures in a school financial report and how do I know if my school is financially sound.
  • Reporting and the legal stuff – Education Act, Crown entities GST,FBT etc
  • What happens at year end. 
  • Q & A 

The afternoon session covers:

  • Understanding the budgeting planning process
  • How to prepare the schools operating budget (monthly and annual)
  • Balance sheet budget
  • Capital expenditure budget
  • Basic cash flow budget
  • Using the budget to manage the school finances
  • Use MUSAC Accounts to produce your budget

Suitable for:   

Principals, Executive Officers, Treasurers, BOT's, Accounts staff

Duration:   

5-hours (includes 30 minute break for lunch)

Cost:   

$250 + GST, per person. Lunch is included.
